The tactic at the moment is to not follow the other chickens with their ridiculous and frightening "run to the people house and see if there's any dog food left" tactic, but rather go ninja like from bush to bush and hide. Progress though.

I am fairly sure that Manzanita is a California Native Shrub, so it was a surprise for me to see one in that photo, but come to think of it I have found Spanish Figs in the back-country here in California as well as Asian Blackberries and European Fennel so it is not surprising that Manzanita would have migrated to Spain.

I think you might be right. I am looking closer and the bark of the tree/shrub in the photo does not have the distinctive red, smooth bark that Manzanita does.
